Eerie Commonality Between Social Media and Online Dating!!

Thursday, December 30th, 2010

I have a close family member who has lived by herself – and her menagerie of furry friends – for quite some time. Some may even call her that crazy cat lady we always joke about. The truth is she is this loving, generous, wonderful lady whom I would love to see her in a mutually loving and giving relationship, but she hasn’t had much luck. I decided to give her an early Christmas present – a three month subscription to e-Harmony to just see what was out there.

It hit me while we were setting up her profile and looking at the steps involved in getting to know your matches that the similarities between my involvement on social media tools for my business and her wanting to meet some nice guys was pretty darn amazing. Here are a few of those eerie commonalities:

1. Photos are good – even if you are ugly, we want to see what you look like so we can put a face to the name and content
2. Interesting and original content engage your readers and/or suitors
3. Transparency – the real person must match the online version – we are smart and catch on pretty fast if you are full of it

I’m sure there are more similarities. Can you think of any others?
