February 17, 2012 (Indiana) – Indiana-based author and former elementary school teacher, F.S. Haltom, is turning to the Internet to raise money to expand, “Cowbilly George.” The series features the stories of a young boy from Indiana as he learns life’s lessons. The funds, raised on crowd funding website Kickstarter.com, will help Haltom publish more books and deliver them to local schools.
Haltom is seeking to raise $10,000 in 30 days. It’s a creative approach that will boost Haltom’s ability to teach children and grow Cowbilly George’s reach through Indiana and beyond. View the funding program on Kickstarter.com (direct link).
“As a teacher, I’ve seen the change that books can have in children,” said Haltom. “I hope that Cowbilly George can become a character kids love to read about, while learning important lessons about trust, fairness, bullying, and more.” Haltom has published two books already, with more on the way.
How the crowd funding program works: Artists, Authors and others create a “project” on KickStarter.com with a defined financial goal to implement the idea. The fund raising period lasts for 30 days on the site, and individuals can ‘pledge’ to give as little as $1, up to the full amount of the project. The site has an all or nothing system – if the goal is not met by the last day of the campaign, no funds are given to the project.
“Individuals who pledge to my book project will give me the resources to reach more kids and put a book with positive characters and life lessons into the hands of young children learning to read,” said Haltom.
