Stanley K. Lacy Executive Leadership Series Seeking Applicants for Class XXXV

INDIANAPOLIS -The Stanley K. Lacy (SKL) Executive Leadership Series is seeking emerging community leaders to apply for Class XXXV. Applications are available online at www.SKLIndy.com<http://www.SKLIndy.com>. Applications are due on Monday, April 26.

SKL is a program of the Greater Indianapolis Chamber of Commerce designed to help emerging community leaders become more informed about the issues and needs facing central Indiana, more motivated to get involved in addressing those issues, more connected and more effective in their service to our community. Its mission is to equip class participants with the knowledge and resources to become powerful agents of change in the community.

The program takes place from September 2010 to June 2011. Classes meet on a monthly basis. Each class features an in-depth look at pertinent issues facing the region.
Topics include education, community development, health and human services, the environment, quality of life, economic development and more.

Among the many benefits class members receive are the opportunities to:

* Meet business and civic leaders who have had an impact on greater Indianapolis.
* Glean insight from civic leaders and decision-makers who act as “faculty” for SKL.
* Develop positive and meaningful relationships with fellow class members and the class moderator.
* Build a network of community contacts that will be helpful in future
community service efforts.

“The SKL Executive Leadership Series is a valuable program for the city’s future leaders,” said Roland M. Dorson, Greater Indianapolis Chamber of Commerce president and a graduate of Class XIX of the Stanley K. Lacy Executive Leadership Series. “I’d like to encourage organizations to look deep within their ranks for those who best fit the SKL program’s criteria and support these emerging leaders through enrollment in the program.”

Applicants are selected on the basis of professional achievement and community involvement. Applicants should have a demonstrated interest in community issues, a record of participation in voluntary community activities, occupy a position reflecting significant achievement relative to age and experience, have lived in greater Indianapolis for three or more years and be between the ages of 25 and 45.

Questions about the program can be directed to Linda Kirby, Program Director, at 317.464.2261 or lkirby@indylink.com.<mailto:lkirby@indylink.com.>

About the Stanley K. Lacy Executive Leadership Series: Formed in 1976 by the Lacy Family, the SKL program seeks to expand the ranks of community leadership by providing a broad range of emerging leaders with the knowledge and incentive to
confront the needs of our community. Each year 25 central Indiana professionals are selected to participate in the program.

(Indianapolis – February 4, 2010) – The 34th class of the Stanley K. Lacy Executive Leadership Series (SKL) is awarding a grant for up to $15,000 to an area organization with a comprehensive plan for preparing at-risk, non-college-track youth for entering the work force.

The class has specifically designated at-risk youth between the ages of 15 and 20 as their focus. Proposals should demonstrate how measurable results can be achieved within a twelve-month period from the date of the award.

“We believe that assisting at-risk youth in entering the work force will directly impact their success of obtaining gainful employment, as well as have far-reaching benefits for our community by increasing the quality of our workforce as a whole,” commented Elizabeth Garber, a member of SKL class XXXIV and co-chair of this year’s Grant Project. “Accordingly, we will award grant funds to a project or projects that can display the most likely path to success for the targeted group.”

Application for this grant is open to qualified tax-exempt 501(c)(3) organizations and K-12 public schools in Marion, Boone, Hamilton, Hancock, Hendricks, Johnson, Morgan and/or Shelby counties. Additional requirements and criteria apply and are noted on the RFP.

Organizations interested in applying for this grant may obtain the RFP online at www.indychamber.com/skl.asp. The deadline is Friday, March 5. Grant funds will be awarded in May 2010.

Questions can be directed to Linda Kirby, SKL Program Director, at the Greater Indianapolis Chamber of Commerce at 317.464.2261 or lkirby@indylink.com.
