A good friend of mine recently recommended that I pick up a book called “The War of Art” by Steve Pressfield.
The book is built around the premise that there is this force within each of us called “Resistance” that keeps us from achieving our big dreams.
It characterizes this resistance as a villain out to stop us from making even the slightest bit of momentum.
Pressfield points out that this villain can’t be deterred or reasoned with and like the Terminator, it will not stop until you are completely defeated.
I really enjoy the metaphor and a fresh approach to an old problem – excuses.
Within each of us lies the ability to do just about anything. However, most people settle because they have convinced themselves that big dreams are for other people.
They build excuse after excuse after excuse for their unfortunate position in life.
How’s the villain keeping you from your goals?
