In their landmark book, The Leadership Challenge, authors James Kouzes and Barry Posner describe how exemplary leaders seek ways to “encourage the heart” of those they lead. The authors’ research finds that this practice is arguably the most important for a leader, and often the most neglected. This session will describe 7 essential practices for encouraging others and provide participants with opportunities to put them into action. What are authentic methods for recognizing board members or volunteers? How do you encourage your staff in ways they will appreciate? In addition to new approaches for motivating and recognizing others, participants will walk away with dozens of new ways to encourage the heart of those they lead.
