Koryukan USA Karate School of Fishers is a martial arts training center serving central Indiana.

When speaking with owner and founder Tom Everett about his school, he is very self-effacing—no doubt a characteristic that has become ingrained during his thirty-six years of personal training. The school was founded seven years ago and currently offers training in four main styles, traditional Goju Ryu Karate-jutsu, Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, Mixed Martial Arts, and their own Modern Defensive Tactics System.

The primary staff for the school are Sensei Everett and his wife, Samantha. Sensei Everett holds five black belts and received elite military training. He has provided martial arts instruction for the military as well as federal, state, and local law enforcement. Everett is currently training Fishers police officers in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu. His extensive personal training has earned Everett instructor’s licenses in two disciplines – a task that has required a lot of time and dedication. Through his extensive training, Tom perceived some “holes” in traditional training techniques, so he developed the SAFE Defense System.

This is a unique training method for several reasons. It overcomes many of the shortcomings of martial arts training that seeks to preserve tradition. Modern attackers do not think as they did when these training techniques were originally developed and the SAFE system has adapted for this modern mind-set. The system also develops mental discipline to focus the mind and body in the event of an attack. It is possible to become proficient in the techniques employed by the SAFE system in a relatively short time.

Students at the school range in age from 4 to 70. Lil’ Dragons Karate is geared toward teaching young students not only karate but the mental discipline that accompanies the physical training. An important aspect of the training for younger students is general safety tips like what to do if a stranger approaches. Koryukan USA also offers training classes for corporate America. They will set up classes with an employer to help employees with self-awareness and practical self defense techniques.

Over the past seven years, the Everetts have learned that business can be an art much like karate. They have identified shortcomings in their business and worked to improve their school. One of the most effective choices they have made is to join Planet Dan, a part of the Glazier Kennedy Inner Circle. The Inner Circle and Manning Methods have shown them marketing strategies that produce better results than previous strategies. New students find their school through direct marketing, their website, and referrals from existing customers.

Tom and Samantha feel that attention to detail, a high level of instruction, family atmosphere, and a genuine concern for the members of their school and community set their school apart. Their 4,300 square foot training facility offers a family-friendly environment complete with complimentary coffee and wireless Internet access. The school has a lengthy mission statement that in essence means that through a combination of physical training and personal introspection, any personal goal can be accomplished. The Everetts are a prominent example of the successful results their philosophy can produce.
